The Protein C pathway has a dual role: anti-coagulation and anti-inflammation. In view of hyper-coagulation and hyper-inflammation in SARS-CoV2 infection, Protein C has been suspected to be a "culprit" in the pathologic events of COVID-19. Modulation of the Protein C pathway emerged as a promising avenue towards therapeutics that interfere with the fatal course of SARS-CoV2 infections.
